It's hard to imagine how we could have thought of every detail of the inn in advance - the process of taking the old house apart, getting to know the local area, and having time to search for unique/second-hand materials both here and in Japan helped to refine our concept over time. In total, we spent about 4-1/2 years working on the house and gardens (Yumi rounds up, I round down).
